Welcome to the British Association of Psychotherapists

We are one of the longest established and largest independent providers of Jungian analytic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy for adults and children in the UK. Our members work in the NHS, the corporate and voluntary sectors and as private practitioners. We have been training Psychoanalytic and Jungian psychotherapists for nearly 60 years.
We welcome enquiries from all sections of society, especially from members of Black and Minority Ethnic communities.
Latest news: ‘... the strongest evidence yet that psychodynamic psychotherapy -- “talk therapy” -- works. In fact, it not only works, it keeps working long after the sessions stop.’ - Recent edition of Scientific American Link to full article
Treatment
Please click on Find a therapist if you are thinking of psychotherapy treatment for yourself, or if it’s for your child. If you wish to know more about the kind of psychotherapy we offer, please go to FAQs.
Courses
We run introductory and CPD courses in London and in Oxford and Reading, see Wessex. For people interested in learning about psychoanalytic and Jungian analytic approaches to psychotherapy, we run an MSc Programme with Birkbeck College, University of London, which provides a good foundation for BAP’s Professional Training whose programmes are often reviewed to take account of clinical and scientific developments.
Career
As an active member association, we run regular events, such as an annual Open Day for people interested in psychotherapy as a career, and scientific meetings and conferences for clinicians. See the BAP Noticeboard for current details. If you are thinking about professional training, including up to Clinical Doctorate level in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Jungian analysis or in Psychoanalysis, please go to: Training Prospectus or Wessex Training Prospectus, or BPA Psychoanalysis.
Publications
We co-own and edit the British Journal of Psychotherapy, BJP. Within our well-stocked library we a series of members’ monographs, including one on redundancy. For more information about the BAP Library click here.
Donations
If you would like to support our work, we receive no government grants nor other aid, please click here for a Giftaid form. Donations received will be put towards running our Reduced Fee Scheme which enables the unwaged and those on low incomes to stay in intensive psychotherapy, and towards the Victor Kanter Fund, set up to offer student loans to trainees during their clinical studies.
We envisage fundraising for future projects, including outreach to minority communities to train more psychotherapists, setting up a psychotherapy clinic for adults and to make our premises and resources more accessible to all, irrespective of their abilities. For further details, please contact the BAP Chief Executive Officer in writing to: 37 Mapesbury Road, London NW2 4HJ by e-mail on ceo@bap-psychotherapy.org or by calling
